Member of the Orchestra Since 1982

Philip Clark is currently the Associate Principal Trumpeter with the Kansas City Symphony. He is also a member of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and the Kansas City Brassworks brass quintet. In addition, Clark is the Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas and Instructor of Trumpet for the Music Arts Institute in Independence, Missouri. He has been a member of the Kansas City Philharmonic, the Toledo Symphony, the Kansas City Camerata, the Crested Butte Music Festival, the Utah Festival Opera, the Kansas City Brass and the Galliard Brass Ensemble. Clark has also performed with the Detroit Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Atlanta Symphony, the Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the Kansas City Camerata, and the Crested Butte Music Festival.

Clark holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree and the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Georgia and the Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. His teachers include Armando Ghitalla, formerly Principal Trumpeter of the Boston Symphony; Albert Ligotti, formerly a member of the New York Philharmonic; and Craig Parker, on the faculty of Kansas State University. He is married to harpist Deborah Wells Clark and they have two children, Dawn and Matthew. When not performing, Clark enjoys hiking in the mountains, exploring caves, and the practice of Kenpo Karate where he hold the title of Master and the rank of Fifth Degree Black Belt.
