Graeme Mutchler is a native of Dallas, Texas where he went to Duncanville High School. He attended Wheaton College and graduated in 2006 with a B.A.in music performance. His teachers and mentors in Chicago were Charles Vernon, Michael Mulcahy, John Schwalm and Mark Fry. He was also associate bass trombonist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and was a substitute member with the Milwaukee Symphony during his time at Wheaton. Graeme then pursued a Master’s of Music degree at the Juilliard School where his primary teachers were Donald Harwood and Joseph Alessi. He was at the Juilliard School for one year and was then appointed to a one-year position with the Honolulu Symphony for the 2007-2008 season. During that season, Mutchler was also appointed to the Kansas City Symphony as bass trombonist, beginning in the 2008/2009 season. He has competed in the International Trombone Festival as a finalist in the Van Haney Competitions and also as a winner of the Yaxley Competition in 2007. He was also a finalist in the 2007 Minnesota Orchestra Zellmer Competition.
