Roger Oyster became Principal Trombonist in the Kansas City Symphony in 1997. He has performed that same role, either as a member or a guest, in the St. Louis Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the National Symphony, the Grant Park Symphony (Chicago), and the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He began his career playing euphonium and as Euphonium Soloist with the United States Marine Band, where he was a featured soloist on more than 80 concerts and on two national tours. He has played euphonium or bass trumpet with the Kansas City Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Virginia Symphony. He has appeared more than 50 commercially released recordings, including many Grammy nominated recordings and one Grammy winner, with the Kansas City Symphony, the St. Louis Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. For the last 20 years he has played Principal Trombone in the Grand Teton Music Festival, Jackson, Wyoming. He received his Bachelor’s in Music degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his Master’s in Music from the Catholic University, Wash. D.C.
