Trumpeter Brian Rood joined the Kansas City Symphony in 1995 and the Kansas City Brass in 2002. Previously he served as principal trumpeter with the Michigan Opera Theater Orchestra, Ann Arbor and Flint (Michigan) Symphony Orchestras and Des Moines Metro Opera. As a member of the Galliard Brass Ensemble he recorded extensively for the Musical Heritage Society.

Rood's recording of the Concertos of Fasch, Hadyn and Telemann for Music Minus One is a best seller. Additional performing credits include the Brass Band of Battle Creek, Detroit Chamber Winds and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Rood studied with Armando Ghitalla, former principal trumpeter of the Boston Symphony and Pops Orchestras. He attended the Tanglewood Music Center in 1986 and 1987 and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute in 1991.

Rood is currently the President of the International Conference of Symphony and Opera Musicians (ICSOM.) He is a member of the ICSOM Media Committee and an AFM Strike Fund Trustee. Rood was the Kansas City Symphony's ICSOM Delegate from 1999-2003. He previously served as Chairman of the Kansas City Symphony Musicians' and Negotiating Committees and was a member of the Symphony’s Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Strategic Planning Committees. He is currently the President of the Symphony’s Pension Committee.

Rood is married to Assistant Principal Violist Jessica Nance. They reside in Overland Park with their five-year-old daughter, Grace, and one-year-old son, Robert. In his spare time, Rood enjoys running, swimming and cooking outdoors.
