Steven Seward, Principal

Steven Seward holds a Bachelor of Music degree in tuba performance from the University of Michigan. His teacher was the eminent tubist and former principal tuba with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Abe Torchinsky. While at Michigan, Seward also won the prestigious Concerto Competition with a performance of Concertino by Eugene Bozza. Mr. Seward has played extra with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and was the principal tuba in the International Opera Festival in Canary Islands, Spain. He has performed with many ensembles and appeared as a recitalist many times in the United States and Europe. "Most musical performance" and "One of the finest players I have heard" are quotes from Seward's 1981 New York premiere in Carnegie Recital Hall. Since 1982, Seward has been principal tuba in the Kansas City Symphony where he has been featured as a soloist many times. Seward recently released his third solo recording entitled Kansas City Dances and his symphony brass quintet, Kansas City Brass, also released their second recording, No Strings Attached.
