Stravinsky Suite from Pulcinella
Barber Violin Concerto
Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2
Shostakovich Symphony No. 1

Michael Stern welcomes his dear friend and musical colleague Gil Shaham for a feast of a concert. Pulcinella was an important turning point in Stravinsky's career, beginning his decades-long "neo-classical" style. Samuel Barber's lyrical concerto has quickly become the most popular violin concerto by an American composer. Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto has traveled the world ever since its premiere in 1935 and quickly became one of his most popular works. Shostakovich's witty yet dramatic Symphony No. 1 was a tremendous success from its premiere, and is still considered today one of his finest works.
