Magnificent Mozart
Fri, 1/15/2010 8:00 PM
Lyric Theatre
Bernard Labadie, conductor
Benedetto Lupo, piano
Schubert Symphony No. 5
W.A. Mozart Piano Concerto No. 18
W.A. Mozart Chaconne from Idomeneo
W.A. Mozart Symphony No. 39

Though fate ensured they never met, Mozart and Schubert shared a love of melody above all else. This concert is filled with one sublime melody after another. Schubert pays homage to Mozart in his Symphony in B-flat with two near-direct quotations from Mozart symphonies. Mozart's 39th, one of that amazing trio of final masterworks written in one summertime burst of creativity, still dazzles us with its beauty and tremendous energy. Piano Concerto No. 18 is one of six concertos Mozart wrote in a single year for his own concerts in Vienna. A concert certain to both dazzle and delight.
