Outreach
Community Connections Initiative (CCI) is an outreach program of the Kansas City Symphony providing free performances and educational opportunities to the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area. By establishing a program which gives KCS musicians increased creative freedom and artistic input into their work, the Kansas City Symphony is able to provide a unique experience for both KCS musicians and the Kansas City community. Programs might include small ensemble performances, educational lectures and performances, workshops and master classes for school and college instrumental classes, etc. Mission of the Program In accordance with the Kansas City Symphony's mission to "advance and advocate the art of classical music for the enrichment of our community," the CCI shall be established to provide an increased variety of primarily educational and outreach services (as well as promotional services) to the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area community in a manner which allows musicians of the Kansas City Symphony increased creative freedom and artistic input into their work.
Audience Served by the Program Depending on the nature of the presentation, the audience could be any members of the community: students, church members, members of a specific organization or workplace, etc. Since there is essentially no limit to Community Connection programs and their performance venues, there is a diverse audience that can be found at any event. Conception/Direction of Program Musicians, KCS staff and area organizations are encouraged to submit proposals for possible Community Connections programs. Once the proposal is approved by the CCI committee, musicians will sign up to participate in the program. The musicians decide the repertoire for the program and work with the venue or presenter on all other logistical matters.
