Brandon Mason, Double Bass

Originally from Arlington, Texas, Brandon Mason began studying the double bass at age 10 in the Texas public school system. A growing interest in a music career led him to Boston University where he received his bachelor’s degree as a student of Edwin Barker, principal bass of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After studying in Boston, he completed his master’s degree at Rice University under the guidance of renowned pedagogue Paul Ellison. While a student in Boston, Mason was a member of the Boston Philharmonic and the Discovery Ensemble. In Houston, he performed regularly with the Houston Symphony for their 2014-15 season. During his summers as a student, Mason attended many notable music festivals, including Music Academy of the West, Spoleto Festival USA, Aspen and the Tanglewood Music Center. Outside of musical interests, he loves hiking and spending time in the mountains, dabbling in visual art and following his favorite sports teams.
