Job Title: Manager of Individual Giving
Department: Development
Reports to:  Director of Development
FLSA status: Exempt

The Manager of Individual Giving is responsible for planning and implementing individual donor giving programs including direct mail and telefunding.  The Manager collaborates with other members of the Development Department in cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors in various Symphony giving circles.  Additionally, the Manager maintains a portfolio of current and prospective donors.



  • Oversee telefunding and direct response campaigns;
  • Develop strategies for attracting and stewarding new donors;
  • Maintain a portfolio of major donors, primarily in the $2,000-$9,999 range;
  • Work with Director of Development and others to manage donor benefits, donor recognition, and stewardship;
  • Collaborate with other members of the development staff to identify, cultivate and steward donors of all levels;
  • Meet agreed upon fundraising and donor contact goals, using sound judgment in developing personalized solicitation proposals;
  • Work with the Symphony volunteer auxiliaries as required;
  • Oversee cultivation/stewardship events for $2,000-$9,999 Symphony Society donors;
  • Oversee the development of the annual Symphony Society literature;
  • Attend concerts, special events and Symphony events on evenings and weekends; and
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in nonprofit fund development
  • Direct experience in donor solicitation and relationship-building, direct mail, and event planning
  • Familiarity with and/or interest in symphonic music desired, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Highly motivated, resourceful problem solver with creativity and commitment to achieving annual financial goals
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with a donor management system; experience with Tessitura a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    Physical Demands: Position requires the ability to sit at a desk and operate a computer for prolonged periods.  Some lifting required.  Ability to drive a car and climb stairs also required.

    Supervises: No direct reports

    Schedule: In addition to regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.), some weekend and evening work is required.
