EDVARD GRIEG Holberg Suite, op. 40 (From Holberg’s Time)
BÉLA BARTÓK Divertimento for String Orchestra

Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg sought to honor fellow Bergen-born playwright Ludvig Holberg on the 200th anniversary of his birth with a suite of dances harkening back to the 18th century. Think “Scandinavian design meets Classical-era music” but you don’t have to assemble anything — just relax and enjoy! The three movements of Bartók’s Divertimento are filled with triplet figures and three-note motifs, offering huge contrasts and luscious solos throughout. The rich blend of Old World charm and zesty harmonies will stir your imagination.

This concert is not available for in-person seating. Our streamed performance is available to subscribers beginning Sunday, April 25 at 5PM on www.mysymphonyseat.org.

Additional May and June 2021 concerts will be announced soon.
