The Kansas City Symphony is a full-time, professional Symphony Orchestra operating out of the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas City, MO. In addition to its own robust season, the Kansas City Symphony also performs for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and the Kansas City Ballet. Substitute player wage rates are consistent with the Kansas City chapter of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 34-627 at $155/service. It is expected that upon working with the Kansas City Symphony, any performing musician will be members in good standing of Local 34-627. Prior to work, musicians must also possess all necessary documentation which allows them to work legally in the United States. This may include proper Visa status, OPT, CPT, etc.

The Kansas City Symphony has a policy now in effect which requires all staff and musicians, including audition applicants, to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 prior to coming to work or take part in an audition. Audition applicants must be fully vaccinated (two weeks passed since the final shot in the series) before attending an audition with the Kansas City Symphony. More information on this policy will be sent upon application.

All auditions will be held onstage at Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.

To apply: Please send a one-page orchestral resume (PDF format preferred) to auditions@kcsymphony.org by Thursday, August 25. Additionally, a $50 deposit is due prior to confirmation of an audition. This deposit will be returned to you at the audition.

Musicians selected by our Principal players for inclusion on our sub list will be contacted as we have need for your services. For any questions regarding Substitute Musician auditions applications, please feel free to contact:
